The “Living Move” series explores and refers to the history of photography. In the 19th century, photographic exposures were long and living sitters often moved which created a blurred image: the living moved. This image depicts San Antonio artist, Vincent Valdez. The superimposed thorns represent pain.
In his early years, Valdez had a studio at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, a major artistic hub in San Antonio, Texas. This photograph was taken when Vargas was leaving the Center after two decades working as the Visual Arts Program Director at the organization. The initial photos were taken in the late 1990s, but the series was completed in 2005. Gelatin silver print with hand coloring. Dimensions: 24” x 20”
